2012 National FOD/OAA National Metabolic Conference

Updated: Dec 26, 2023

Portland, Oregon

Our 2012 FOD/OAA National Metabolic Conference was held on July 20-21 in Portland, Oregon at the Red Lion Hotel on the River. Our Premier Sponsor was Oregon Health & Science University Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics. We had over 200 FOD and OAA Families and Professionals interested in Fatty Oxidation Disorders and Organic Acidemias join us for a fantastic time in Portland!

FOD Speaker Presentations

For all of those who were unable to attend our conference this July 20-21 at the Red Lion Hotel on the River, we are posting the PowerPoint slides (converted to PDF for easier viewing) from our Speaker presentations, as well our Sponsors, Agenda and brief professional biographies.

Our turnout this year was our highest ever for the FOD Group (about 110 FOD, 75 OAA, @10 professionals) and we hope that our next conference in 2 years will have an even larger attendance! We will let you know if we are successful at finding a major sponsor to help us offer another great Conference. Your suggestions for location, speakers, and topics are always appreciated (email to deb@fodsupport.org).

I want to personally THANK Dr Melanie Gillingham for helping Kathy Stagni (OAA) and I coordinate this event and Oregon Health & Science University Dept of Medical and Molecular Genetics for being our Host/Sponsor and to all of our Sponsors and Supporters! Thank you also to ALL of our FOD Volunteers (Eileen, Gwen, Brenda, Terri, and several others!) and the student Volunteers that helped in the Children's Activity Room ~ you did a terrific job! THANK you to all of our Speakers for sharing their expertise and knowledge of FODs and related medical, psychological, nutritional, family, educational, and newborn screening issues. Families came away from this conference with ALOT to think about, as well as having the opportunity to connect with other families around the world dealing with many similar issues. They also had many opportunities to speak with our Professionals and ask them a variety of questions. This year, because of a very generous anonymous donation from back in 2010, we were able to offer scholarships that assisted 7 Families with registration, travel, and hotel costs ~ two of those Families included an MCAD Dad from Greece and one adult LCHAD and his dad from Australia!
